I had the privilege of attending the Rubber Innovation Forum 2024 in Kolkata, a platform where industry leaders, researchers, and innovators gathered to discuss the latest advancements in rubber technology. During the event, I had the opportunity to connect with Mr. Peram Prasada Rao, CEO of Rubber Network | TechnoBiz, Thailand. The exchange of ideas further solidified our commitment to exploring innovative solutions and expanding our global reach.
One of the most fascinating discussions at the forum centred around the concept of electronic skin (e-skin) using flexible sensors made from rubber composites. This cutting-edge technology mimics human skin by integrating sensors that can detect pressure, temperature, and motion, making it invaluable for applications in healthcare, prosthetics, robotics, and wearable devices. The development of e-skin showcases how flexible, stretchable materials can be used to create highly sensitive and adaptable surfaces, with the potential to revolutionize industries that rely on human-machine interfaces.
Another exciting area of exploration at the forum was the introduction of polarity into EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer). Traditionally known for its excellent durability and resistance properties, EPDM has now been enhanced with polarity, improving its adhesion and compatibility with various substrates and additives.
The forum also highlighted advancements in unconventional blending techniques. By combining different types of rubbers and adding nanomaterials, researchers are creating hybrid materials with highly specific properties tailored for unique applications. These materials offer a combination of strength, flexibility, and resistance that was previously difficult to achieve.
We were also inspired by the ecosystem being created by Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and its esteemed professors, Dr. Santanu Chattopadhyay and Dr. Titash Mondal, where industry and research collaborate to foster innovation and help create future entrepreneurs.
Our participation in the Rubber Innovation Forum 2024 has reinforced Saga’s dedication to staying ahead of industry trends and incorporating the latest research into our operations. The insights gained from this event will drive our efforts to innovate and develop advanced rubber technologies that meet the evolving demands of our customers.
